Exciting opportunity to learn about Buddhism, its teachings and artwork

Traveling Nara you will encounter world famous temples of varying size and scale. Some of the oldest date back to the introduction of Buddhism to Japan in the late 6th century and many house artworks of immeasurable historical and cultural value. Whether it’s questions about the impressive Great Buddha at Todaiji Temple, the daily life of the monks at renowned Kohfukuji Temple or the teachings of Buddhism and its arrival to Japan, many visitors leave Nara wanting to learn more.

At Nara Visitor Center & Inn on Tuesday, February 21st, Rev. Gyoei Saile, a German-born priest trained at Kohfukuji Temple, will tell the story of Buddhism, introducing its teachings, practices and artwork. The talk is open to all and free of charge. Reservations are not accepted and admission is on a first-come, first-served basis. Don’t miss this unique opportunity to learn more about Buddhism and Buddhist life from the first non-Japanese priest to live and practice at a Nara temple in over a thousand years.
